1 About the Program

The Global Alliance of Universities on Climate (GAUC) is proud to announce the launch of the ‘Climate x Leadership’ Program 2022 this June, providing an exceptional interdisciplinary platform for emerging leaders in climate and issues related to sustainable development goals.

Initiated by Sciences Po and Tsinghua University, with the support from member universities of GAUC, this initiative provides participants with a diversified global curriculum with prominent faculty resources, professional networks and a glowing future leader community.

As part of GAUC’s Climate x Global Campaign, all participants will get opportunities to contribute their own high-level events to the Global Youth Summit from Oct 30 to Nov 4, 2022, pre-week of COP27.

2 Learning Objectives

The Climate x Leadership Program aims to provide students with frontier systematic practical training, and regional/global supporting communities to grow their knowledge to tackle climate issues. Through a combination of training, speaker series and group exercises, the program will focus on helping participants understand the importance of the climate governance agenda and the synergy between climate change and other SDGs, leading the future leaders to investigate innovative strategies for a net-zero future.

3 Expected Outcomes

Participants are expected to develop skills fundamental to global/regional/local leadership, including in-depth problem analysis and exploration, presentation and expression, cross-cultural communication, and teamwork.

As a flagship of GAUC’s Climate x Campaign, this leadership program will also provide students with a global and regional platform to practice their learning. Students will have a chance to join the following event opportunities:

4 Assessment

Students who are accepted will be appointed ‘GAUC 2022 Youth Ambassadors’.

5 COP 27

Throughout the intensive training program, outstanding ambassadors will have the opportunity to become a ‘GAUC Youth Delegate’ to attend UNFCCC COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt and to receive awards during the COP27 summit awarding ceremony.

6 How to apply

This program will open to the 15 GAUC member universities, including: Australian National University, The University of Tokyo, Tsinghua University, Indian Institute of Science, Stellenbosch University, Sciences Po, London School of Economics and Political, University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, Imperial College London, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Yale University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Columbia University, University of California Berkeley.

7 Eligibility requirements

● Interested in climate change and sustainable development

● Possess outstanding climate change leadership, research, or practice skills with specifically, 1) leadership experience organizing events such as forums and student unions; or 2) awards or published papers related to sustainability; 3) a running civic climate action organization

● Demonstrate strong English comprehension and expression abilities
